Camera Settings-The Silent Secrets You Never Knew

Image
(Image provided by Photography Life)  ISO, aperture, shutter speed-  "Noise", "depth of field", "freezing motion"- Forget all of it.  That's not what creates great images.  Your artistic vision is what does. However, camera settings are important.  These three videos will break it down simply for you. All that's left is for you to practice.  Videos Provided by: Joshua Cripps  Now, when it comes to the aperture, the effect you can get from it will vary depending on a few factors. Check out these videos to gain an advanced understanding of aperture. Below videos Provided by Gerald Undone.  "Depth of Field Myths: Does Focal Length & Sensor Size Affect DoF?" You Don't Want to Be a Professional Photographer

Image
Okay, maybe you do!  Here's where I'll get into Photography Specialties. I will say, I honestly wish I didn't choose this path for myself. (I'm getting into Real Estate photography if you were wondering).  And for a basic tripod, I'd recommend this guy:  SmallRig Camera Tripod, 71" Foldable Aluminum Tripod/Monopod, 360 (degrees) detachable ball head. For real estate specific,  SILK Pro 700 DX Tripod Legs - Black In order to use this, you need an "adapter" which has a 3 way gear head: Benro 3-Way Geared Head (GD3WH)  Buy everything mentioned above USED off eBay. You'll save money. Landscape :  I wouldn't recommend this for 99.9% of people. Landscape photography is one of the most difficult aspects of photography, from an art point of view and from a monetary standpoint.  That's not to say it's not possible! Check out these videos from my favorite landscape photographer. For me, the cons FAR outweighed the pros.  Wedding (and portrait): ...

Camera Gear That Makes Sense

Image
(Image created using AI).  Buy used.  But don't take my word for it. This is what we see on B&H's (a company mostly known for selling camera equipment) website- Okay, what in the world?!?!? WHY is camera gear so expensive?  It can  be expensive, depending on the camera brand, model, the condition, what it's capable of, etc. But it doesn't have to be! I'll give you a quick run down of different camera types, what you do and don't need and what to get.  TL;DR-Buy used gear! Camera Classifications Cameras nowadays are split into two categories: DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) and Mirrorless. DSLRs use a mirror, mirrorless cameras don't. DSLRs are generally heavier than mirrorless. That's about all you need to know. Sensor size : The sensor is what captures the light. It will be an APS-C (Advanced Photo System-Classic),  full frame   (commonly called "35mm"), Micro four-thirds (Micro 4/3) or Medium format camera.  - There's one more call...

Focus shift

Image
(Image created with AI) Silent Lens here! :) I wrote I'd be focusing on my own type of photography. I also mentioned my nature photography photos and glossed over them.  Then, I thought: "I remember being a beginner! I remember thinking about tripods, cameras, lenses, video because every YouTuber tried to shadow convince me I needed my own YouTube channel (stay tuned?) and how much money I didn't want to spend!" If you're a beginner and need direction, I'm the right person; not because of my experience, but because I also hate spending money {:D So let's start with what gear you'll need:  PSYCHE ! Incorrect! Your focus is in the wrong place. First, identify what you'd like to shoot. If you have zero idea, that's okay! Start out with your phone. You'll likely see things in your neighborhood that you enjoy looking at, such as:  - A sunset - Your neighbors flowers (don't shoot in the direction of their homes :) - Insects - Birds/squirrels ...

Silent Lens-Unveiling The Unseen

Image
Hi, I'm Sydney, or Silent Lens! I've had a strong love for photography ever since I was 9. I'd search "Beautiful Waterfalls" or "Beautiful Forests" on Google and Bing (rip) and look at the results for hours on end. I still do, sometimes.  My cousin and cousin-in-law gave me my first film camera as a High School graduation present-a Pentax K1000. The film has rot for years, but around a year and a half after I received such a wonderful gift, I bought my first digital camera from my good friend for $350: A Nikon D3300 with the 18-55mm and 55-200mm kit lenses, a fisheye lens, spare batteries and an external Nikon Flash. So I shot nature.  "G R E A T! 😃 Move on, kid. 🙄 This is every other ameture photographer ever".  While I still love shooting nature photos, I'm going to be making photos that display surreal scenes here; things not possible without photo editing.  I have a recently-found draw to art expressing strong emotions. Yes, usually ...
